Invasion of Goa

"Its (Portuguese) territory on the Indian subcontinent was not a colony but part of metropolitan Portugal and hence its transfer was non-negotiable; and that the India had no rights to this territory since the Republic of India did not exist at the time when Goa came under Portuguese rule."

"The casualties were minimum. I am in favour of all wars being like the war between India and Portugal -- peaceful and quickly over!"

Vendetta for India

'India is on the boil' as per the new JaagoRe advertisement (which I like very much) and in such socio-political environment the discussion of Politicians and Governance easily comes to the coffee table. While one such discussion in office, a friend and ex-colleague of mine reminded me of the movie V for Vendetta and told me it's really nice to see how a man takes on the Totalitarian Government. Though the situation is not that worse in India yet but at parts and at times, to some Indians, the suffering is no less.

As per my habit, I tried to extract few nice quotes from the movie and zeroed on the below two quotes.

1. People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

2. The problem is that he knows us better than we know ourselves.

The second quote that I picked up from the movie tells that knowing others better than how they know themselves is good and important. Though difficult to attain such knowledge; it is not impossible. It can certainly help you in handling a difficult situations.

Another noticeable thing that I found in the movie was during the credits. It is my habit that I let the credits play till the very end as I don't really want to miss anything that might be there. So, I did the same with this movie as well. When the credits were playing, and the song changed, I noticed a familiar beats and few words that I did not fully recognize because of inattention; but then I concentrated. As soon as the next lyrics came, it was clear as crystal. My doubt was correct, these were Hindi words! I was a bit surprised with joy.

***The first video is the song with visuals from another movie. And the second video is with lyrics.***

That's what I love about India and it's vastness. It is everywhere. You get it's mention at the places where you hardly suspect (mostly because of your ignorance of its greatness). Last time while watching Hart's War, which was purely based on World War II, United States and the Nazi Germany, I was attracted towards the term, "Aryan Perfection". My senses alerted me and I paused the movie and Googled the term to find out what it is about. And I was right, it certainly relates to the Aryan Race. It might not had been used in it's entire positivity there, but it was quite a thing for me. I am yet to research on the exact relation of this term Aryan Race with Nazi Germany.

Speaking of the song at the credits of V for Vendetta, I tried to find about it but not much of the info was available. Though I get to know the basic things for sure,
The song's name is "BKAB" at it is by Ethan Stoller. Ethan is the producer of the song and the song actually contains mix of two songs taken from different Hindi Films (Bollywood). The songs are 'Chura ke dil mera' from the movie 'Main Khiladi tu Anari' and 'Pardesi Pardesi' from 'Raja Hindustani'. I am putting the YouTube links to all the songs.

The obvious question of what can be the reason of putting such track came to me and I tried to find out the info available about this song and the producer but not much of the info is available online. From what info I gathered and by the correlations I can apply, I think the reason is somewhat related to Wachowski brothers. The writers and the producers of V for Vendetta had famous 'Navras' featured at the end of their Matrix Revolutions. Though 'Navras' can definitely be correlated to the theme and the soul of The Matrix Series but the relation of Hindi lines in BKAB to V for Vendetta is hard to correlate.

Kabaddi World Cup, 2011

India is hosting the second World Cup of it's very own game, Kabaddi. The matches will be played in various cities of Punjab; the opening ceremony was held yesterday with the performances of stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Sukhwinder Singh. The tournament will continue till 20th November.

The games like Kabaddi are actually attached to the roots of our Country but the response they get from the media and normal public is so cold so far. And it would be wrong to blame the normal public for that. The general medium of information for masses, TV, Radio, and Newspapers are relatively silent on these events. That's because lack of sponsors and money but media can play it's role here.

When I came to know about the Kabaddi World Cup, 2011 many days back, I was pretty excited to see the live action of a sport that we can call truly Indian. And the fact that India won the first Kabaddi world cup held last year and is strong contender this year as well adds to the excitement. Who doesn't want to see his countrymen winning a World Cup, be it of any sport. And I consider India to be a sport loving country more than just a Cricket crazy nation. We are actually excited about watching Indians compete and win, be it Boxing in Commonwealth Games, Hockey in the Olympics or Shooting, Tennis and recent F1 tournaments. We love to see the games because we love to see Indians win. Don't we?

The great Indian telecasting mystery.
An example of how uninformative our various channels of information can get, I tried hard to find out which channel will be telecasting the Kabaddi World Cup, 2011 live but got no information. No website, no news channel, no national daily says about who is going to show these matches. I revived my search today thinking that after the opening ceremony at least, I will get something. Internet told me that Geo TV is going to telecast the tournament but that is for Pakistan, not for India.
Then I watched a report on news channel regarding the opening ceremony and SRK's performance and noted that the footage was courtesy PTC Punjabi. But to my disappointment, the website of the channel is badly managed and it says nothing about the Kabaddi World Cup till today and the links like Program, schedule and Contact Us don't
work. But luckily I found PTC Punjabi up and running on my Tata Sky subscription and I got very relieved when I watched the add of the Kabaddi World Cup Telecast after watching the channel for sometime.

So, the mystery was over now for me and the Kabaddi World Cup would be telecasted  on PTC Punjabi and PTC News live from 1st November to 20th November 2011. I am very disappointed with the lack of info on this but I am very excited to watch the matches that will start from today. India will fight Germany today.

Following link will help you somewhat with the schedule.

Angrez... Getting restless and mannerless

--> It is called the gentleman's game and the term  most probably came from England itself. But if you see the English team on the field during their tour present tour of India, you'll certainly see the "gentlemen" part not being applicable on the present English players. I don't claim Indian cricketers to be most calm ones on the field but the way the English are behaving is miles away from being calm and composed.
India played ODIs after losing all the Tests in England and even while they were losing ODIs one after the other, it looked like their focus was more towards performing in the matches rather than on sledging and venting their frustration out on the other team.

On the other hand, the English players seems to be completely shocked and surprised by the one blow after the other that they don't know how to react, what do to! That might explain their body language and reactions on the field. 10 years back, if an English player had said something to an Indian batsman, he might have had got away with a smile but not today especially in front of this all young Indian cricket team which is filled with a different kind of pride and confidence that the Indian cricket never had before. We are on the top now, and no-one has even a slightest of doubt about that. When asked about the exchange of words part by Ravi Shashrti, Raina clearly said that it's hard to digest one defeat after the other and that they are really willing to send England home with 0-5 clean-sweep gift.

Fourth step to redeem pride

-->
Becoming world champs is one thing and retaining the pride associated with it is quite another. Like what happened in 1983, after winning the world cup, we lost quite badly in next few series. This has happened with few other teams as well. But those were different times for India, as we were underdogs when we won the Cup in 1983. But in the World Cup 2011, we were among the top contenders and we lived upto the expectations. Though, the fate turned out to be similar in the second series after the Cup. It was a clean sweep for England in all the formats of the game, be it Test, ODI or T20. History repeated itself.
Now, when the England is in India after the India’s forgettable tour of England, there has been a change of fortunes for both the teams. India is standing tall in the five match series by winning first three matches in row and the fourth one in progress. This change was desperately awaited by Indians as the series is considered as the series of redemption. And it is necessary for Team India to show their mettle and wash away the blot that India’s tour of England had put on the World Champions.
Looking at the way it is going, England is going to have hard times here in India. And it’s good for India to gain the lost momentum and let England be content with the great Indian hospitality outside the cricket field.

What is Windows 8 Developer Preview?

Windows 8 is the new upcoming Operating System from Microsoft Windows family. The recently announced Windows 8 aspires to be the next big release in the market as it's not just another version of Windows Operating System but it is a whole different way in which Microsoft views it's most loved baby, Windows.

Windows 8 will be the operating system not just for traditional PCs but for every other device that runs a featured Operating System. This includes desktops, laptops, netbooks, and tablets. The usual Windows desktop is transformed by what is called Windows start screen that has all the applications that you want to use just a click or touch away.

That's just at the face of it, otherwise it also has many new developments inside that makes it really interesting. These new features are yet to be fully revealed and experienced.

Here is a video from Microsoft that will give you some idea.

The first thing I felt after getting aware of this was "Wow, I want to check it out!" and yes, it is possible through Windows Developer Preview.

Windows Developer Preview is the test version of Windows 8 that is released by Microsoft for the developers and testers. Check the post below to know how to download and install it on your machine. It is not that complex.

TRAI’s 100 SMS Per Day Limit

Just got aware of the upcoming 100 SMS per day limit from September 27th, imposed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI).  Earlier, it was to begin from February but was postponed then. I was unaware of the ban at that time and today when I heard of the news, my first reaction was “what the hell it is?”
Though the true nature of the ban is still unclear to me as there are various incomplete versions of the news, like for instance

Some say this ban will not be applicable on festive days like Holi and Diwali when you may send more than 100 SMS; while other says users will be mostly hit on these days as we don’t normally send more than 100 messages in a day otherwise.
There is also lack of clarity on are we talking about the bulk SMSs in this ban or the regular SMS as well. I mean, will this ban make telecom companies to convert their unlimited messages per day plan to 100 messages per day and after that the users will be charged according to the normal plan? Or will it simply not allow you to send any more messages after 100 messages.

It is most probably the ban only on the free messages exceeding 100 per day; one cannot be stopped from sending text message otherwise as it will be in direct conflict with the basic “fundamental right” of the freedom of expression of an individual.
Then also, the limit of 100 messages per day looks a bit harsh as a normal teenager, for whom texting is the basic mode of communication, can easily reach such a limit in a day.

The scene would be clearer in the coming days!

Dravid to quit ODIs after England series

Dravid to quit ODIs after England series

If you have listened to the interview in the above link, you'll know that Dravid called a press conference to express his shock for being included in the One Day side again after two years and to formally announce his retirement from limited overs cricket. Don't the selectors consult the senior players like Rahul Dravid before including him into the side after such long to ask him whether he feels like playing One Dayers anymore or not. Because what is clear from the speech of Dravid is that he is not willing to play One Day cricket anymore; though a player like him will give his 100% once decided to play any form of cricket.

Singham...

Lyrics of Singham - Title Song...

It took long to listen and compile the lyrics accurately. Sukhwinder Singh has again sung a great number. When I first heard this song in the promos of the movie, I instantly felt good about it. But I didn't get chance to download and listen to it untill I watched the movie on Monday night (tonight). And now only I got to know that it is sung by Sukhwinder Singh, which was icing on the cake for me! :)

This song is a special one. Though I feel it could have been made better in order to keep the original intended feel in the song which slightly diminishes at times. The song starts and ends with some mantras which I am yet not able to completely decipher or found on internet. My search is on and I will get back with the exact words and the source too! ;)

My IMDB comment on this movie can be found at
